The Castle Rock Senior Activity Center exists to bring seniors together. At no other time in a person’s life is there as much isolation as during the senior years, as many are living alone for the first time. Meanwhile, at no other time in a person’s life is there as much free time as during the senior years, after raising families and in demanding careers come to an end. The Castle Rock Senior Activity Center exists to see that people are neither isolated nor idle, both which bring down quality of life. The Center brings seniors together, creates lifelong bonds, and to provides outlets for their talents and interests, along with helping them develop new interests. The face of today’s senior is changing, and we strive to provide programming to meet their diverse needs. The stereotypical senior sitting in a rocking chair passing the time no longer exists. Today’s seniors may be the “60 somethings” who want to be golfing, whitewater rafting, filling their minds with new information or skills, and being willing to volunteer often because they’ve got the time to do it for the first time in their lives. The “80 somethings” may be in need of hot meal programs because cooking isn’t something they want to do anymore, and they may desire low impact exercise programs or just sitting and talking about what’s going on in the world with their friends. They may also have given up driving and are in need of transportation services. You can find all of this and much more at the Castle Rock Senior Activity Center, now with over 1000 members enjoying the average of 150 activities a month offered.
The Castle Rock Senior Center was started by a small group of people in Douglas County as a Senior Citizen Club in 1971. We have evolved into a nonprofit organization with a membership of 900. The center was incorporated in 1992 and received a 501 c(3) designation in 1993. In 1997, we moved to the Community Recreation Center. We have a Service Agreement with the Town of Castle Rock to provide services to the senior community.
